Welcome to my Web Media portfolio. I have created this blog to showcase my greatest works produced throughout my college career.

Fact or Fiction

Fact or fiction that is the question.  How does one decipher a valid article, from a fake one? According to Inc.com, There are a few “red flags” one can look for to find the validity. I will use this checklist to figure out whether the article is legitimate or not. Since most articles are written well enough for the validity to be obvious, it is crucial that one approaches the site with an open mind along with very critical thought.

Communications Plan: OJOS Eyewear

Communication plan statement:
This is an ongoing campaign to inform UMKC students about the OJOS movement. Another part of this campaign is to motivate students to donate eyewear that they do not use anymore to the less fortunate in third world countries.

Situation Analysis:

The story- OJOS is a new organization founded by University of Kansas Alumnus, Tyler Reynolds, Tim Shockey and Liam Kirby. OJOS has joined together with New Eyes for the Needy, in effort to diminish the vision problems in third world countries, by eyewear donations. There is a critical need for quality eye care. Without sight, people miss out on the quality of life, which we can sometimes take for granted. As a UMKC student, I would like to bring awareness to the University of Missouri-Kansas City and in turn, boost donations for the organization. This is the first year for OJOS, but their partners at New Eyes for the Needy have been in contributing since 1932, helping over 7,000,000 people in over 27 countries. OJOS would like to enhance that number greatly.  The majority of students at UMKC are unaware of the critical need for eye care in third world countries. An estimated 126 million Americans wear prescription eyewear. As a country, we are wealthier and more technologically advanced. This has given Americans the options of insurance, Lasik, etc.. To bring it back in full circle, the majority of these individuals (UMKC Students, family members, members of the community) could take their old frames and donate them to the OJOS movement.

Analysis:
The main reason that donations are sparse is because there is a lack of knowledge about the OJOS movement. If a communications plan is implemented to inform the UMKC campus of the crisis at hand, donations to help the less fortunate will boost

Neo Aristotelian: Julian Castro

The 2012 Democratic National Convention made history: literally. Julian Castro, the mayor of San Antonio, became the first Hispanic to be presented with the honor of being the ceremonies Keynote Speaker. While America heard from Latinos such as Marco Rubio, Susana Martinez, and Luis Fortuno during the Republican Convention, Castro was the individual selected to captivate the audience in Charlotte, North Carolina

Narrative Criticism: Parenthood

Parenthood, one of the few television shows that has chosen to focus on Autism. During a crucial episode, the TV family deals with the diagnosis of Autism, as well as the decision to keep Max (child with autism) in the mainstream school system or move him to a charter school that is specifically for children with autism.

BP Oil Spill

Oil is one of the most prominent resources in our country today. Oil can be found along the countryside, or in the depths of the deep sea. . A lot of good can, and has come from the distribution of this product (average of 23.9 billion/year) On the flip side, there can be faults within the system (i.e. rigs, wells pumps, etc…) With every success, and there can be a crisis. If a crisis occurs, the way an individual, or in this case, a corporation handles the situation can either lead to an up rise or downfall of the company? For the purpose of this paper, I will focus on British Petroleum.

Kanye West Apologia

At the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift received Best Female Video of the Year Award. In the midst of her acceptance speech, Kanye West walked on stage, asked the country star for the microphone and stated, “Beyonce' has the best video of all time” Swift stood there in disbelief as the hip hop star made a spectacle of himself. Moments after, Beyonce was awarded Best Video of The Year. As she stood on stage to give her acceptance speech, she called on Miss. Swift and asked her to continue her speech that was previously interrupted (VMA’s, 2009) The support from Beyonce, along with fellow musicians and fans showed that the response to the actions of Kanye West were going to cause a negative media storm to emerge.
